File Savers was born not from venture capital, but from sheer determination and necessity. Brent Jackson, a father of four with no college degree and no backup plan, built this company after the collapse of his former employer, ADR Data Recovery. He launched File Savers from scratch, no lab, no income, just a $6,000 tax return, an idea, and relentless grit. The first months were hard, but after a few lucky breaks and endless effort, the phone started ringing and File Savers took off. From a 600 square foot office in Victor, Montana to over 175 locations nationwide, Brent’s mission turned into a movement.

Brent Jackson began his career in sales and became a top performer at Mathis Brothers Furniture in Tulsa Oklahoma before joining ADR Data Recovery. He worked his way from sales manager to lead engineer, overhauling their internal recovery systems. With no formal training, he taught himself everything, from advanced data recovery to coding and web design. Brent doesn't just lead File Savers, he built it from the ground up, remodeling offices, crafting custom furniture, writing software, and setting a tone of humility, grit, and excellence that still guides us today.

File Savers Data Recovery wasn’t started with venture capital or a polished lab. It was born from grit, desperation, and the relentless determination of a father with four young daughters and no backup plan. After spending years helping build ADR Data Recovery, from sales management to lead engineer, Brent found himself at a crossroads. The company he’d invested his heart into was failing. Employees were being turned into independent contractors, paychecks bounced, and the once-promising business was slowly collapsing under mismanagement.

Brent offered to part ways with integrity. He proposed a 90 day transition where he would teach the owner everything he knew, everything he had spent years developing through trial, error, and countless hours in the lab. He reorganized the workspace, documented critical processes, and tried to set the company up to survive without him. But in April of 2013 after only 30 days of the transitional agreement, the owner of ADR decided it was time for Brent to move on.

He wasn’t ready. There was no website. No equipment. No income. Just an idea, and the looming reality of needing to put food on the table for his family. With no college degree, no safety net, and no one willing to lend a hand, Brent used his $6,000 tax return to buy a recently closed data recovery business that had a few essential pieces of used equipment and tools from a competitor who had just gone under. The lab didn’t exist yet, and neither did a business.

Flat broke and unsure how to move forward, Brent began building a website by hand. He taught himself how to code and spent 16 hour days for three straight months creating the first version of filesaversdatarecovery.com website. But when the site was ready to go live by the middle of July, Brent was out of money and had no way to support his family while waiting for the phone to ring. Then, out of nowhere, Brent’s parents drove eight hours to surprise him. His father, without saying a word, handed him an envelope. Inside was $2,000, money he had earned by selling handmade dollhouses at the local farmers market after retiring due to a severe hand injury he sustained while repairing a cherry picker. Brent broke down in tears. His parents had almost nothing, but gave everything. It was the lifeline he needed.

About 2 weeks after launching the site, calls started coming in. Unfortunately, File Savers very first four cases were all unrecoverable, extremely damaged devices. But then came the turning point: seven drives in one day, all successful recoveries. Over $10,000 in revenue hit File Savers account, and suddenly, the lights stayed on. He could feed his family. He could breathe. He hired his first employee with no guarantees of success or even being able to pay him. He also rented a 600 square foot office in the small town of Victor, Montana where he crammed the lab and the sales department into the small space. In August of 2013 File Savers generated over $20,000 in revenue, and between August and December of 2013 it generated nearly $300,000. In 2014, they added an additional 600 square feet of space which became the new lab and allowed the two departments to seperate and grow to a million dollar company. By the following year, it had expanded to over 50 drop-off locations in cities across the U.S., offering local access to cleanroom data recovery once reserved for elite corporations. Brent didn’t just build a company, he built a mission.

By 2019, File Savers had outgrown it’s original space and moved into a new building in Hamilton, which Brent remodeled himself. That held them for a few more years, until 2023 when they purchased, remodeled and moved the headquarters into a new 9000 square-foot building in Corvallis, Montana, complete with a custom-built ISO 5 Class 100 cleanroom. The company now houses industry-leading and custom tools, equipment and software to optimize the data recovery from the most complex RAID arrays, SSDs with proprietary controllers, phones, the newest helium filled hard drives over 20TB in capacity.

File Savers became the company that doesn’t quit, recovering data from plane crashes, fire-damaged drives, and enterprise servers destroyed in natural disasters. The company has performed high-stakes recoveries for medical centers, Fortune 500 companies, law enforcement, and major sports franchises including the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Cubs. One recent case involved recovering data from 22 submerged, twisted laptops that were destroyed in the midair collision of Flight 5342 with a military helicopter over the Potomac River.
